Rail risks becoming a side-show, says RFG

[ September 23, 2014   //   ]

The Rail Freight Group says it has real concerns that the industry could be “marginalised” as Network Rail moves back under Government control and the Labour Party announced proposals to bring infrastructure management and passenger franchising closer together. RFG said it had “real concerns that rail freight could be marginalised in an environment designed around the needs of Government specified franchises and the Government owned infrastructure manager.”

This is despite the success of the privatised rail freight industry, with 2 billion invested in the sector

in the last 20 years.

RFG has set out a five-point plan for the industry, which includes protecting and investing in capacity and a more equal approach to road and rail.
