CMA CGM signs deal with Iran’s Irisl

[ January 29, 2016   //   ]

CMA CGM signed a vessel-sharing agreement with Irisl (Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines) in late January. The deal, inked during a visit to Paris by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, marks the main Iranian container carrier’s return to the international fold. Irisl was banned from many of the world’s major trades and from all EU and US ports when Iran was put under UN sanctions as a result of its nuclear programme.

CMA CGM, along with MSC, UASC and Evergreen, have already resumed calls at Iranian ports. Meanwhile, Irisl itself has announced plans to order Triple E type vessels as part of a comprehensive retonnaging programme.
