[ August 25, 2017   //   ]

The Transport Research Laboratory has been awarded a government contract to test truck platooning from next year, in partnership with DHL, Daf a technology firm Ricardo. The trials will use up to three lorries with only the lead vehicle being driven by a human driver, although drivers will still control steering, the aim of the tests being primarily to reduce fuel consumption. Initial trails will use test tracks, but public roads will be used by the end of the year.
