New road measures set to reprieve Newport

[ December 20, 2017   //   ]

The Welsh Government has put forward a package of measures costing around £135m to mitigate the effect of the new M4 relief road on ABP’s port of Newport, the BBC reports. They include providing new buildings for firms operating in the port and developing the south dock as an alternative to the north dock where a new bridge would wmake it inaccessible for some vessels. The height of a new bridge over the River Usk would be increased.

The report added that the measures meant that opening of the new relief road would be delayed by two years.

A public inquiry into the scheme is expected to finish in the spring next year.
