New rules set to shut all London airports at night, warns charter group

[ May 14, 2018   //   ]

The Air Charter Association (BACA) is warning that new noise regulations will effectively close most of London’s airports overnight from this summer. It says that new national and local Government noise contours will now close or severely restrict overnight flights at Heathrow, Stansted, Gatwick, Luton, Biggin Hill, Northolt, Farnborough and Oxford Airports, leaving Southend as the sole remaining airport with 24-hour operation.

BACA is calling for a more pragmatic approach, saying that apart from the relatively small Southend airport, the nearest airport able to handle medical flights and ad-hoc freight movements is now Birmingham, 115 miles away.
