Three seamen have died after being struck down by a mystery illness on board the German-owned coaster Suntis while it was berthed in ABP’s Goole docks, the BBC reports. The men were taken to hospital on Monday morning, but one died shortly after 07:00 and the other two died later. The men, who have not been named, were a 60-year-old German and a 33-year-old man from the Philippines. The nationality of the third man, aged 38, has not been released.

Humberside Police said it was working with the Health and Safety Executive and the Maritime Agency to try and find out what happened.

The 1985-built, 1,815dwt vessel had been carrying timber and had previously called in Frederikshavn (Denmark), Riga (Latvia) and Gdynia (Poland), according to Marinetraffic.com.
