Scots concerned over Calais

[ July 27, 2015   //   ]

The Scottish Government has raised concerns over the effect that the recent disruption to cross-Channel services was having on Scottish seafood exports, including an incident in which vehicles carrying fish from the Highlands to the continent were damaged by protesters in France.

Fisheries Secretary Richard Lochhead said Continental supermarkets and wholesalers had canceled orders and fish had been rejected due to deterioration.

While recognising these issue are primarily for France, Mr Lochhead has asked the UK Government to press for prioritisation of UK products with a short shelf life and to update the Scottish Government.
