70 million teu and counting…

70 Million TEU - Port of FelixstoweThe landmark container was loaded aboard the 13,800teu MSC Bettina by the UK Secretary of State for Transport Patrick McLoughlin on 21 August driving a huge container crane under the guidance of one of the port’s crane driving instructors.

Clemence Cheng, CEO of Felixstowe’s owners, Hutchison Ports (UK), said: “Passing this latest milestone underlines the Port of Felixstowe’s position as the Port of Britain and highlights its long record of achievement. Felixstowe has been the UK’s leading container port for over 30 years.”

Felixstowe handled a record 3.7 million teu in 2012, over 40% of all containers moved through UK ports.
