CMA signs Kingston hub deal

[ August 18, 2011   //   ]

The CMA CGM Group has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the operation, equipment and expansion of the Gordon Cay Container Terminal in Kingston, Jamaica for a minimum of 35 years.

The Panama Canal widening will require a major reorganization of shipping, particularly in the Caribbean and North America region as vessels of up to 12,500 teu will be able to cross the Canal, compared to the current 4,000teu limit – well beyond the limit for most ports in the Caribbean and on the US East Coast. There will be a phased expansion of the Gordon Cay Terminal, initially to 1,300m in the first phase, with potential to develop an extra 1,700m, and a 17m draft capability.
