[ May 15, 2012   //   ]

Marine lawyers Holman Fenwick Willan have donated more than £60,000 in cash and £40,000 worth of legal services to the Chauncy Maples fund which aims to rebuild a river steamer in  as a floating clinic.

Malawi’s Ministry of Finance has also confirmed that the project will be exempt from import duty and fuel duty, which will save about £500,000 and speed up the renovation.

Belinda Coote has meanwhile been appointed executive director for the project. She has worked as Oxfam’s regional director for southern Africa; and chief executive of Medical Aid for Palestinians, Latitude Global Volunteering and AMREF UK. Belinda was a founder trustee and has stood down from the board in order to take up the post.
