Third ferry for Irish Ferries’ Dover-Calais route

[ November 30, 2021   //   ]

Irish Ferries is to add a third vessel to its Dover to Calais route. The Ciudad de Mahon – which will be renamed – will join the Isle of Inishmore and the recently announced Isle of Innisfree in the first quarter of 2022.

The Ciudad de Mahon, built in 2000 in Spain and originally delivered as Northern Merchant, originally operated on the Dover – Dunkirk route following her delivery. She has capacity for over 90 freight vehicles and up to 589 passengers with facilities including a self-service restaurant, café/bar and duty-free shop.

Irish Ferries managing director, Andrew Sheen, said the new ship would allow Irish Ferries to offer a departure from either Dover or Calais every 90 minutes.

Irish Ferries launched its Dover to Calais service in June 2021, with the transfer of the Isle of Inishmore to the route, where she operates up to 10 sailings a day. The Isle of Innisfree will join the route in December, doubling the current sailings on the route.
