Food thieves get busy

Food products continue to be the commodity most at risk of theft globally, accounting for a third of all hijacking incidents, according to the latest British Standards Institution’s Supply Chain Risk Insights Report. Incidents are up by 29% from 2022, it says. .
In the UK, thieves have been targeting basic goods that have experienced significant price increases over the past year. Nearly a quarter of products stolen were food and beverages (24%), followed by apparel (19%) and alcohol (10%). In 2022, food and beverage thefts accounted for only 13% of total thefts, mirroring the global increase.
In 2023, thefts from facilities are the most common type (33%) in the UK, followed by thefts of vehicles (18%).
