Swire Shipping makes switch to biofuel
[ April 24, 2025 // Chris Lewis ]Swire Shipping has switched to B24 and B30 second-generation biofuel blends for three of its vessels serving the South Pacific. The voluntary move, made in conjunction with sister company, Argent Energy, supports its long-term sustainability ambitions and will provide more options to customers looking to reduce their emissions.
The three vessels involved in the biofuel programme operate on the Pacific Weekly Express (PWX) service from southeast Asia to Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, New Caledonia and Fiji, and on the East Timor service between Singapore, Dili, Darwin and Surabaya. The vessels will bunker B24 fuel in Singapore in the second quarter of 2025 enroute to the South Pacific, and subsequently transition to B30.
Swire Shipping will also introduce a carbon abatement programme, Voyage to Zero, whereby participating customers receive certificates of emission savings towards the reduction of their Scope 3 emissions.
