Crane move is a towering success for AAL

[ May 6, 2025   //   ]

AAL Shipping (AAL)  transported three fully assembled Konecranes port cranes from Schiedam and Westdorpe, Netherlands, to ports in Mexico and Chile on an ‘open hatch’ sailing on its Super B-Class vessel, AAL Hamburg – a first for this vessel type.

The Gottwald ESP 10 mobile harbour container cranes are among the largest, designed for Super-Post-Panamax vessel, measuring over 80 metres long.

Two of the cranes were loaded onto the AAL Hamburg in Schiedam and the third in Westdorpe..

Due to the towering height of the cranes, AAL developed a tank top stowage and open hatch sailing plan to sail via the North Atlantic and the Panama Canal – an operation only possible thanks to the design of the Super B-Class.
