Grimaldi takes delivery of first new-gen ship

Grimaldi Group has taken delivery of the Grande Shanghai, the first of ten next-generation PCTC (Pure Car & Truck Carrier) vessels commissioned from China Merchants Heavy Industries Jiangsu. The first five ships can carry 9,000 CEU (Car Equivalent Units), while the following five will offer up to 9,800 CEU.

Following the delivery of the Grande Tianjin in early August, the Grande Shanghai is the second ammonia-ready vessel in the Grimaldi fleet. The Grande Shanghai is equipped with lithium batteries and can also receive shore power in port. The electronically controlled engine features an exhaust gas cleaning system to reduce emissions.

The Grande Shanghai will make her maiden voyage on the East Asia – East Africa but in future is set to strengthen services between East Asia and Northern Europe.
