WEC launches weekly Spain/UK/Ireland service
[ September 29, 2025 // Chris Lewis ]WEC has revamped its existing UK IE Spain service from Le Havre and Bilbao into the UK and Ireland into a weekly service while adding Antwerp, Montoir-de-Bretagne and Gijón to the rotation.
By adding a second vessel to the service, renamed NWC Spain, it establishes a fast weekly sailing route from Bilbao and Gijón to Dublin and Liverpool. Departures from Bilbao on Fridays and arrivals in Liverpool on Mondays and Dublin on Wednesdays give a fast and reliable alternative to trucks, it says.
Transit times from Antwerp and Montoir to Bilbao are seven and two 2 days respectively, with onward rail connections to Barcelona, Valencia, Madrid, Zaragoza and Agoncillo (La Rioja). From Liverpool connections are offered to Belfast by sea and, by rail, to Mossend, and Greenock in Scotland.
The new service will be performed by two dedicated 812 and 822-TEU vessels in a weekly, fixed day rotation.
Managing director WEC Lines, Caesar Luikenaar, said: “By adding a second vessel to our existing service, we offer a fast and reliable solution for our Spanish clients into Northwestern Europe and vice versa. This underlines our commitment to respond to market demand while offering continued optimal solutions for our existing client base.
WEC Lines has also recently added a link from Thamesport and the North-west Continent to the Canaries by extending its service to Portugal and has introduced a weekly service from Zeebrugge to Dublin, calling at Le Havre France on the return leg.
