Katoen Natie buys Cork’s South Coast Logistics
[ October 13, 2025 // Chris Lewis ]Cork- and Dublin-based South Coast Logistics has been acquired by Antwerp-headquartered logistics and port operations company, Katoen Natie for an undisclosed sum, subject to regulatory approval.
Founded by the late Colman O’Flynn back in 1975 and continued by his sons John, Richie and Pat, South Coast has grown to become one of Irelands leading logistics specialists in the pharma, petrochemical and food manufacturing industries. Services offered include secure tanker and container storage, flexitank handling, dry bulk logistics, waste and chemicals transport and supply chain consultancy. It operates a fleet of over 80 Euro 6 tractor units and more than 300 chassis, supported by its sister maintenance company Specto.
As the business enters its next phase—including the development of a terminal at Dublin Inland Port – the O’Flynn family have decided to seek international investment to support this and future growth.
With operations in over 35 countries, Katoen Natie provides tailored supply chain solutions in sectors including petrochemicals, consumer goods, automotive, and specialty chemicals.
South Coast managing director, Richie O’Flynn, commented: “Our purchase by Katoen Natie marks a major milestone in our journey as a company. With their global expertise and shared commitment to excellence, we’re now poised to accelerate our growth and expand our reach in ways that benefit our customers, our employees and our region.
“I’m delighted to remain as managing director to lead the company into this exciting new chapter — building on 50 years of family heritage within another family company and pursuing a dynamic and ambitious future.”
Katoen Natie business unit director, Patrik Naenen, said: “This acquisition represents an important step in strengthening our footprint in Ireland and building on South Coast’s proud legacy of excellence. For us, this partnership is not only about growth, but also about shared values. Like South Coast, we believe in accountability, integrity, innovation, and collaboration as the foundation of long-term success. ‘Our people make the difference’ is not only the slogan of Katoen Natie but also reflects our most important value: our people and our teams. We therefore wished to set up this deal only with the full support of the South Coast management team, who will continue to lead the company into the future.”
