New app slashes East Africa border times
[ November 24, 2025 // Chris Lewis ]Kenya Revenue Authority, in collaboration with TradeMark Africa and the British High Commission, have launched an eCUSTOMS app at the Busia One Stop Border Post on the Kenya-Uganda border. The platform is designed to make customs declarations faster, paperless, and hassle-free for traders, transporters, and passengers and is part of a 15-year partnership to accelerate trade growth across the country’s borders. The new app aims to reduce cumulative truck waiting time by 1,200 hours daily at Busia or about one hour per truck and save small traders approximately KES 750 £4.43) per customs declaration. Earlier, the Regional Electronic Cargo Tracking System developed by the partnership reduced transit time from Mombasa to Busia from 15 days to 2.9 days, and from 15 days to 3.1 days on the Mombasa–Malaba route between 2024 and 2025.
