Paper sets out port priorities for Scotland

[ January 28, 2026   //   ]

The UK Major Ports Group, Associated British Ports, Forth Ports and Peel Ports Group, have published a position paper on action to unlock long-term private investment in Scottish port infrastructure ahead of the parliamentary elections in May.

It highlights priority areas where government action would make a material difference including a Scotland-wide Defence Growth Deal, recognising the strategic importance of ports in supporting defence capability, security and industrial capacity; planning improvements to provide greater certainty, clarity and pace for port-related development; and freight incentives reform, to strengthen Scotland’s competitiveness, support modal shift and improve supply chain resilience.
