Maersk signs eight-ship order
[ February 9, 2026 // Chris Lewis ]Maersk has signed an order with New Times Shipbuilding in China for eight 18,600 TEU vessels with delivery in 2029 and 2030. At 366 meters long and 58.6 meters beam, they are more compact than the current maximum container vessel length of 400 meters and offer greater flexibility in deployment options.
The ships will be equipped with dual-fuel engines able to operate on conventional bunker fuel or liquified gas. With the latest order, Maersk now has 33 vessels on order, with four scheduled for delivery in the remainder of 2026.
