Ferry costs at your fingertips
[ March 27, 2026 // Chris Lewis ]Ferry booking agency Freightlink has created a timeline document that details how cost increases such as Bunker Adjustment Factors (BAFs), new port charges or the Emissions Trading Scheme will impact hauliers, using three routes as examples. While increases seen in January 2026 are muted or even flat, modelling suggests that costs in some cases could soar by over a third when new BAFs are introduced from March.
The modelling suggests that Dover-Calais charges could rise by 35%, by 29% on Holyhead-Dublin (where increased port charges in Ireland are also a factor) and by 10% on Harwich-Hook of Holland.
