Grangemouth school pupils helped Forth Ports name its cranes in Grangemouth – as the Scotrtish conmtainer gateway celebrates its 60th anniversary.

Henceforth, the three gantry cranes, a familiar feature of the local will be known as The Forth Titan, Dougie the Docker and Sir Lifts a Lot. The new Liebherr material handler will be called Libby.

Four schools – Sacred Heart Primary School; Bowhouse Primary School; Moray Primary School; Beancross Primary School – took part in the competition and the port were impressed with the highly original and creative range of entries. The winners were invited to the port to meet the team and also to get a tour of the port including a visit to see the cranes and equipment up close.

Competition judge Dean McLachlan, an operations supervisor, said: “We were all blown away by the enthusiasm for this competition and it was difficult for the judges to get a shortlist of four names as the quality of entries was so high.”
