Dachser is hungry for growth in Freiburg

[ July 6, 2026   //   ]

Dachser has officially opened a refrigerated transit terminal for food logistics at its Freiburg site, along with further capacity for industrial and consumer goods.

The food logistics transit terminal is about 3,200sq m and has a temperature range of 2 to 7 degrees C for items such as meat, sausages, dairy products, wine and spirits and baked goods. There are 32 truck gates

Dachser currently has food logistics activities in ten countries and, via the European Food Network—an alliance of leading European food logistics companies—serves a total of 34. In 2025, the food logistics business line’s overall revenue was EUR 1.8 billion.

The project in Freiburg has also created more space for handling industrial goods, adding 2,700sq m and eight truck gates. The new building is directly connected to the existing transit terminal and has been gradually going into operation since early June.

General manager of the Freiburg centre, Michael Gaudlitz, said: “With the launch of food logistics at this location, Dachser Freiburg is taking on an even bigger role within the Dachser network. Our goal is to develop this location into one of Dachser’s major hubs for food shipments. At the same time, we’ve built additional capacity for our customers in the industrial and consumer goods sectors.”

Dachser has invested about €12 million in the expansion and created 40 jobs, bringing the total to 210. A new 125-truck parking lot has also been created.

Managing director of Food Logistics, Stefan Behrendt, added: “Since Freiburg sits close to where three countries—Germany, France, and Switzerland—meet, the location offers great potential for the international growth of Dachser Food Logistics. We want to create a platform to connect these three countries still more closely and to serve the markets of southwestern Europe even more efficiently.”
