Rhenus reigns in Spain and Latin America

Rhenus is reporting 30% growth in its export volumes from Spain to Latin America. The forwarder says the increase reflects strengthening trade ties between the two regions, driven by growing interest from Spanish companies in diversifying their markets and expanding their international presence.

Export volumes from Spain to Latin America grew by more than 30% year-on-year in 2026 across both air and ocean freight, making Spain one of the best-performing European markets within its network.

Route development manager at Rhenus Air & Ocean, Monica Ruebenkoenig, said: “More Spanish companies are making Latin America part of their growth strategies. The simultaneous increase in both air and ocean freight volumes demonstrates that their trade activity is strengthening steadily.”

Spain plays a key role in Europe’s trade relationship with Latin America thanks to its strong economic, cultural and business ties with the region. Industrial sectors continue to underpin these trade flows, with raw materials and chemicals accounting for more than 60% of ocean export volumes to Latin America.

Rhenus adds that the European Union-Mercosur Agreement, which entered provisional application in May 2026, could further reduce trade barriers and create new opportunities for exporters and importers on both sides of the Atlantic.
