Strike looms at Heathrow handler

[ June 17, 2013   //   ]

The Unite union warns that a strike at Menzies World Cargo is imminent after 89% of Heathrow based workers voted in favour of action in protest at a two year pay freeze in 2012 and 2013. The union says that Menzies made £35.6 million in underlying operating profits in 2012 from its aviation division, up by 16% on 2011.

Menzies clients include Air India, China Airlines, Kuwait Airways , Asiana, Gulf Air, Lufthansa, MEA, Egypt Air, Austrian Airlines, MNG, SAS, Thai Airways , TAP, Transero and Aegean.

Unite national officer Oliver Richardson said: “Our door is always open but time is running out. Unless we get some movement in the next few days we will have no choice but to announce a strike date. It is completely unreasonable for a successful company which is making significant profits to force its workers to take a two year pay freeze.”
