AAL pays tribute to India with ship naming

[ May 12, 2026   //   ]

Heavylift carrier AAL Shipping named its latest Super B‑Class vessel, AAL Mumbai at the CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipyard in Guangzhou. The 32,000-dwt multipurpose heavy‑lift (800t max lift) newbuild will bring its Super B‑Class fleet to eight vessels – with two more still in the pipeline for delivery in 2028.

Named after one of India’s most prominent maritime, industrial and commercial hubs, AAL Mumbai reflects AAL’s continued focus on, and commitment to, the Indian market.  The vessel joins the fleet at a time when India’s infrastructure, energy and offshore renewables sectors are experiencing sustained growth, driving increased demand for specialised heavy‑lift and project cargo shipping solutions.

Global head of chartering, Marc Willim, said: “The naming of AAL Mumbai is a symbolic moment for us as we expand our footprint in India,” commented  “This vessel strengthens our ability to serve Indian customers with safe, reliable and flexible heavy‑lift solutions, while reinforcing our commitment to supporting India’s role as a key driver of global project cargo demand.”

Like its sister vessel AAL NewcastleAAL Mumbai introduces a range of technical enhancements including increased heavy‑lift capability, with individual crane capacity raised from 350 to 400 tonnes, enabling a combined lifting capacity of up to 800 tonnes.  Additional design refinements optimise deck strength and utilisation, as well as the handling of long and complex project components.

The vessel will play a key role in AAL’s ability to offer mixed cargo solutions, carrying project cargo alongside high-volume breakbulk and general cargo parcels within a single voyage.
