[ May 15, 2012   //   ]

Aer Lingus Cargo is to sponsor the Irish Exporters Association ‘s Multinational Exporter of the Year Award, a key category in the National Export Industry Awards.

Organised by the IEA in conjunction with Aer Lingus Cargo, the competition recognizes the outstanding achievements of multinational companies in contributing to the growth in Irish exports and jobs. The Awards search will culminate with a ceremony on 23 November, when the Taoiseach will present the category winner, and the overall Exporter of the Year.

Aer Lingus director of cargo, Peter O’Neill, stated: “As the leading provider of transatlantic flights between Ireland and the US, and offering cargo services to 36 airports in Europe, Aer Lingus Cargo plays a significant role in the supply chain for these exporting companies. We are delighted to partner with the Irish Exporters Association in recognizing the achievements of the Multinational Exporters and look forward to continuing to serve them with tailored handling for their high value products and through the delivery of a high quality, efficient and reliable air cargo services.”

John Whelan, CEO of the Irish Exporters Association added: ‘’Since the start of the economic crises in 2008, global investment decisions have focused on expansion of existing investment locations rather than green field investment. A recent study by fDi Intelligence on Global Investment trends found that Ireland had the highest proportion of expansions globally ahead of the USA, UK and Germany.‘’

The fDi Intelligence report also found that foreign direct capital investment grew by 78 % in Ireland last year and associated job creation by 13%. This, stated Mr Whelan, ”is a clear indicator that multinational corporations continue to see Ireland as a key location to locate and expand their export operations from.

’’The Award programme, sponsored by Aer Lingus Cargo, will help ensure that these companies and their staff are recognized and appreciated.‘’
