Aer Lingus to fly Manchester-US

[ March 26, 2021   //   ]

Aer Lingus has revealed details of its flights from Manchester to the US, following US US Transportation Department approval, reports Routes Online.

It will launch daily flights to New York JFK and five times weekly Orlando services from 29 July while a three times a week Barbados service will be added from 20 October. A route to Boston will start in summer 2022.

The JFK route will use Airbus A321LRs while Orlando and Barbados will use A330-300s.

Aer Lingus already operates flights between Dublin, Belfast, Cork and Manchester.

A new Aer Lingus (UK) subsidiary has been set up to fly the routes. The carrier’s main purpose will be to fill the gap in the market left by the demise of Thomas Cook Airlines in September 2019 and provide competition for Virgin Atlantic, which is the dominant player on US routes from Manchester.

Final approval is being deferred until the UK Civil Aviation Authority issues Aer Lingus (UK) with an air operator’s certificate.
