Airfreight cartel fine overturned

[ December 16, 2015   //   ]

General Court of the European Union has upheld a challenge by a group of airlines to a €790 million-(£582 million) fine imposed in 2010 for air cargo price-fixing between 1999 and 2006.
The carriers involved in the case were Air France-KLM-Martinair – fined a total of over €310m – Air Canada, British Airways, Cargolux, Cathay Pacific, Japan Airlines , LAN Chile, Qantas, SAS and Singapore Airlines. Lufthansa was not fined in return for providing evidence in the case.
The airlines’ appeal was upheld on the grounds that the original judgement had been unclear.
In a statement, one of the carriers involved Cargolux welcomed the decision adding that it would conduct a detailed analysis of the Court’s decision.
