Airfreight industry keeps US moving during port strike

[ March 3, 2015   //   ]

Air Charter Service says its North American and Asian offices did more than $25m worth of business during the port strike on the US west coast. The London-headquartered broker has arrangedover 40 charter flights on large aircraft, carrying almost 5,000 tons of automotive parts, perishables and other urgent cargo to prevent production lines from being shut down
Managing director of ACS’s Asian offices, Stephen Fernandez (pictured), said aircraft availability was the biggest problems and prices had tripled due to the demand and because aircraft cannot wait for the cargo for the return trip. There just haven’t been enough aircraft to cope with demand.
ACS had to fly in some of our charter experts from our European offices, to help out the Hong Kong team.

And while the port strike is officially over, air charters will still be needed as there are still heavy delays and a build-up of cargo in the ports.
