Another Spanish site for Arvato

[ December 20, 2021   //   ]

Bertelsmann’s Arvato Supply Chain Solutions arm has opened a new logistics centre in Parla, around 20 kilometers south of Madrid. The 25,000sq m facility handles all logistics and online fulfilment for a major fashion industry client.

Managing director of Arvato Supply Chain Solutions in Spain, Emilio Juaranz, said: “Spain is a market with great potential in which we intend to further engage in the future.”

Arvato already operates two other locations in Alcalá de Henares to the east of Madrid with a total of around 28,000sq m of warehouse space.

Emilio Juaranz explained: “Arvato’s general goal is to further expand its global network of locations in order to offer customers scalable infrastructures and a high degree of flexibility. We can thus support them in growing in their focus markets and give them rapid access to new markets.”

To this end, investments have also been made in the network in 2021 – several projects with a logistics footprint of more than 250,000sq m are currently being implemented worldwide sand the new distribution centre in Parla is part of this strategy.

The building has been refurbished by logistics property developer and manager Montepino Logística. It 11 metres high and has 25 loading ramps, and is close to main transport hubs and the A-42 freeway linking Madrid to Toledo, meeting the requirements for the rapid distribution of orders demanded by the online retail sector.

It will employ an annual average of around 600 new employees, working 24 hours seven days a week in three shifts, says Emilio Juaranz. However, he adds, the  number can increase to as many as 1,000 during peak seasons.

The property has a covered lounge area for employees, which is connected to a large outdoor terrace and is set to be certified to the Gold Standard of the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) for sustainable buildings.
