[ July 7, 2021   //   ]

The world’s largest plane, the Antonov 225, took off from Leipzig/Halle on 7 July with medical equipment for Windhoek in Namibia. The cargo consisted of 530 pallets weighing approx. 70 tonnes. The airport’s PortGround handling subsidiary was responsible for loading the AN 225 in conjunction with the German armed forces.

Alongside its regular traffic, the airport has already handled about 70 freight charter flights transporting millions of Covid-19 test kits and protective equipment during the first half of 2021. About 60 cargo airlines fly to over 200 destinations.
