Argentine import rules cause delays, complains trade body

New import licencing rules introduced by Argentina are causing long delays and massively increasing trading costs, complained members of the World Trade organisation’s Council for Trade in Goods when they met on 30 March. Some 14 members, including the EU and US, said that since 2008, Argentina had greatly expanded the list of products subject to non-automatic import licensing requirements and in January 2012 had introduced pre-registration, review and approval of individual import transactions. Argentina maintained its measures were compatible with WTO
