BIFA to link with Ethiopian opposite number
[ June 9, 2025 // Chris Lewis ]BIFA has signed a memorandum of understanding with its equivalent in Ethiopia, EFFSAA to develop the forwarding industry in the country, following an approach by the Foreign Office Development Aid Group. Operators there face numerous challenges, not least the lack of a seaport, although Ethiopian Airlines is one of the most advanced cargo carriers in Africa. Currently, Ethiopia’s only outlet to the sea is via Djibouti, although efforts are being made to develop a corridor via Somaliland (not to be confused with Somalia), where the port of Berbera has been developed with UK held and now operated by DP World. Ethiopia is meanwhile surrounded by some of the world’s most unstable countries such as Eritrea, Sudan and Somalia. BiFA members with existing strong trade relationships with Ethiopia are urged to get in touch with director general, Steve Parker – s.parker@bifa.org
