Boxes in bulk wagons solves cargo conundrum

[ November 11, 2020   //   ]

Port of Hamburg operators have come up with a novel solution to the problem of imbalanced rail freight flows. A new system developed by ILG Innovative Logistics Group on behalf of Logistik Service GmbH (LogServ) allows 20-foot export containers to be loaded into bulk wagons that have been used to import coal and iron ore for the Voestalpine Steel Division.

The containers are loaded with steel products such as coils and heavy plates, destined for China or South Africa. A total of 68 containers are transported by a weekly train between Linz and Hamburg.
