Breaking down barriers in East Africa

[ February 5, 2015   //   ]

Not-for-profit organisation TradeMark East Africa (TMEA) will unveil a Logistics Innovation for Trade Fund (LIFT) platform at a free half-day event at the Delta Hotel in Rotterdam on 12 February.

The LIFT challenge fund – which is managed by TradeMark East Africa (TMEA) with funding support from the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID) – provides grants ranging from US$200,000 to $ 750,000 to companies in the East African Community (EAC) to develop and test new ideas to reduce the cost and time of transport and logistics in the region. East Africa has amongst the highest freight and transport costs in the world. While trade is growing rapidly in the region, for many companies, the prospect of entering the market is daunting, says TMEA. LIFT aims to reduce the risk of investment by providing a matching grant to companies with transformative technologies or improved practice and will co-invest with the private sector in projects that may otherwise be too risky.

The event will be hosted by TMEA CEO Frank Matseart, and will bring together key players in the industry to discuss pushing the boundaries of innovation in new directions and improving transport and logistics efficiencies to and from the EAC.
