Bristol to be FLOW Central under Crown Estate plans
[ June 23, 2025 // Chris Lewis ]The Bristol Port Company has welcomed The Crown Estate’s announcement identifying Bristol Port as a key player in the next generation of floating offshore wind developments in the Celtic Sea. It has awarded rights to deliver two 1.5GW floating windfarms off the coasts of South West England and South Wales to Equinor and the Gwynt Glas joint venture between EDf Renewable UK and ESB.
Bristol Port has been named as a likely location for final assembly.
Energy Secretary Ed Miliband said:“Floating offshore wind will be transformative for economic growth in Wales and the South West, unlocking thousands of jobs in places like Port Talbot and Bristol, bolstering our energy security and delivering industrial renewal. The Celtic Sea has huge untapped potential to support our mission to become clean energy superpower, so we can get energy bills down for good through our Plan for Change.”
Bristol Port Company chief executive, David Brown, said “We are excited to see two experienced developers win Round 5 projects and we look forward to working with Equinor and Gwynt Glas to deliver these hugely important projects for the region. This is a milestone moment for the UK’s green energy transition and for Bristol. Floating offshore wind unlocks vast clean energy potential, and Bristol Port is ready to support the scale of infrastructure and innovation needed to make it happen.”
