CargoBeamer steps up schedules across Europe
[ October 8, 2026 // Chris Lewis ]Rail-road operator CargoBeamer has increased the frequency of its trailer-carrying trains across Europe.
The Kaldenkirchen – Domodossola service has gone up to 22 weekly roundtrips, making it one of the most frequent intermodal rail connections in Europe, it says. At the same time, trains between Calais and Perpignan increase to eight weekly roundtrips, and the service between Stuttgart and Milan was increased to five weekly roundtrips.
The increase on Calais – Perpignan is the second upgrade to the route in 2026 and CargoBeamer has doubled its offering in less than six months. It aims to further expand the schedule to double-daily departures.
The Stuttgart/ Milan route was launched in April 2026 as a successor to the discontinued Rolling Highway service with five weekly roundtrips.
Cargobeamer uses its own design of road-rail transfer system which allows it to carry non-craneable semi-trailers. Conventional technology requires specially strengthened ‘huckepack’ trailers.
CargoBeamer chief commercial officer, Tilman Apitzsch said: “High-frequency routes are the key to unlocking the full potential of intermodal transport and have therefore increased the frequencies on three of our routes. The more often a train runs on a given connection, the more it strengthens the reliability and schedule attractiveness of our routes, providing an even stronger offering for time-sensitive supply chains. With the two expanded CargoBeamer terminals in Kaldenkirchen and Domodossola going live in 2027, we are excited to drastically increase the frequency on Kaldenkirchen – Domodossola again.”
