Catapult seeks more targets for funding
[ April 22, 2026 // Chris Lewis ]The Connected Places Catapult UK innovation agency for transport is making up to £110,000 available to a dozen smaller firms with ideas to tackle the sector’s biggest challenges under the latest cohort of its Freight Innovation Fund.
Funding from the Department for Transport is available for four categories -Renewable energy supply , Autonomy in freight and logistics, Supply chain resilience and an Open challenge for solutions that improve the impact on nature, efficiency and safety of inter-modal freight.
Grant funding will be up to £10,000 for each selected innovation and eight of these will then progress to the next stage, where they will each receive up to £100,000 to deliver a pre-commercial Pilot and Trial contract. SMEs will be required to match-fund 30% of the total project cost.
Firms applying to the programme have the option of applying with an existing industry partner or selecting to be matched with an industry partner.
The industry partners supporting the accelerator programme are: DFDS, GXO Logistics, Port of Tyne, Portsmouth International Port, Shoreham Port, Twentyforty, and Welch Group.
Prospective applicants have until midday on 1 June to apply via the Catapult’s website.
