Cathay Pacific offers vaccine solution

[ January 12, 2021   //   ]

Hong Kong airline Cathay Pacific Cargo has developed a solution specifically to distribute Covid-19 vaccines, based on its Ultra Track track-and-trace system. Ultra Track monitors information including temperature, GPS location, and humidity, using low-energy Bluetooth readers and gives shippers and forwarders near real time visibility to ensure that vaccines remain within their transportation temperature ranges. Shipments will also be monitored by a new operations control centre.

Cathay Pacific director of cargo Tom Owen added that the service would be progressively rolled out through the first quarter of the year, and the track and trace element would be free of charge for any Covid-19 vaccine shipments.

The airline’s Hong Kong base has also gained airport-wide recertification of IATA’s CEIV Pharma, including the Cathay Pacific Cargo Terminal and ground-handling subsidiary Hong Kong Airport Services.

The Cathay Pacific Cargo Terminal is meanwhile being expanded to offer more temperature controlled capacity with a new cold room storage, able to handle a further 1.6 million doses.
