CMA CGM signs e-barge deal
[ May 30, 2025 // Chris Lewis ]CMA CGM has has signed an agreement with local logistics and port operator Gemadept to operate an electric barge service in Vietnam with sportswear manufacturer Nike as a launch customer. As part of the initiative, announced last December, the French-based line will establish a Green River Transportation joint venture to operate the vessel. It will be supported by construction of a solar-powered charging station at the Cai Mep port. The e-barge will transport goods between Binh Duong and Cai Mep, on a 180 km round trip, avoiding 778 tons of CO2 annually. It was co-designed by CMA CGM’s New Build and R&D teams in partnership with battery technology firm CATL and will transport over 50 000TEUs annually. Operations are expected to start in 2026.
