CMA CGM to speed up Syria scheme

CMA CGM says it will accelerate the launch of the second phase of the Latakia Port expansion project in Syria following a meeting between the group’s chairman and chief executive Rodolphe Saadé and Syrian transitional president Ahmed al-Sharaa.It will complement the ongoing initial €30 million investment and commits a further €200 million. Under the renewed 30-year concession agreement signed on 1 May, CMA CGM will continue to manage and redevelop Syria’s main international container terminal at the Port of Latakia. The new investment includes expansion of the container terminal to over 1 million TEUs annually, modernization and digitalization of port operations, upgrades to enable access for larger vessels with 16m draft, rail and road connections and the launch of dry ports throughout the country.
