CMA to call in DHL-EVRi merger

[ June 16, 2025   //   ]

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) said on 11 June that it was investigating the planned acquisition by EVRi of DHL eCommerce UK, and DHL Group’s acquisition of a minority stake in EVRi.

The CMA said it was considering the plan would result in a substantial lessening of market competition.

As an initial step, the CMA is an ‘invitation to comment’ to allow interested parties to submit any initial views on the transaction by 25 June.

It follows the announcement in May that the two companies planned to create a merged business – branded Evri Premium that would deliver over 1 billion parcels and 1 billion business letters annually with Evri’s courier offer complemented by DHL eCommerce’s premium van delivery network. Evri would continue to be majority owned by Apollo-managed funds and DHL Express, DHL Supply Chain and DHL Global Forwarding in the UK would continue to operate as they do at present.

The move would have brought brings Evri into the UK business letter market for the first time, with DHL’s UK Mail retained in the new combined group. The combined Group was set to include 30,000 couriers and van drivers, 12,000 other colleagues, and a fleet of 8,000 vehicles.
