Court throws out Eurotunnel freight ferry plan

[ December 16, 2015   //   ]

The Supreme Court has thrown out a plan by Eurotunnel Group to continue operating a freight-only ferry service between Dover and Calais. When the Competition Appeal Tribunal (CAT) confirmed in December 2014 previous decisions by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) to prohibit the operation of the Group’s MyFerryLink passenger and freight ferry service, Europtunnel had hoped to be allowed to operate a service using the former MyFerryLink freighter, Nord Pas De Calais and second similar ship, arguing that it would not compete with the other established ferry services. However, with the Surpreme Court’s decision, the Eurotunnel Group will put the Nord-Pas-de-Calais up for sale.
