Customs men to talk developing world transit

[ June 2, 2017   //   ]

The World Customs Organisation (WCO) will organise a Global Transit Conference on transforming landlocked developing countries (LLDCs) into ‘and-linked’ countries on 10-11 July. In 2014, the average cost to export one container from an LLDC was US$3,444 and $4,344 to import whereas transit countries had average costs of only $1,301 to export and $ 1,559 to import a container, with cumbersome transit procedures contributing much of the extra charge. WCO says there is an urgent need to simplify current transit operations, eliminate unnecessary border requirements and harmonize different transit systems. New WCO Transit Guidelines, consisting of 150 guiding principles for efficient transit regimes, will be launched during the event.
