[ September 21, 2023   //   ]

ALS Customs Services is now providing services in Brazil – its first expansion beyond Europe – and has opened its first branch in Portugal.

It has opened an office in the port city of Santos, Brazil with other branches in and São Paulo. Its team in the country is led by new managing director, Paul Schabbel, who managed the Brazilian customs and logistics specialist, Pirâmide SeaAir Comércio Exterior, for 25 years.

ALS adds that the start of operations in Portugal enables it to close a gap in Europe. Paul Schabbel will in fact work from Lisbon and, is also responsible for this business. “As well as a common language, Brazil has inherited the bureaucratic complexity of the Portuguese customs system and the role of a customs broker is identical in both markets, although Brazil is a much larger market with industries such as automotive, oil and gas, petrochemicals agroindustry. The state is pursuing a protectionist economic strategy, which makes importing goods and services a complex task and requires a great deal of knowledge and expertise.

ALS has developed its in-house MOTA Customs Control Tower, and digitized processes in both countries provide customers with more efficient clearance as well as greater transparency and compliance.
