Descartes improves visibility on the Channel[ September 12, 2016 // Chris ]
UK customs clearance agent ChannelPorts is using Descartes e-Customs and Descartes Pentant solutions to improve the speed and visibility of its declarations.
ChannelPorts managing director Paul Wells says that the Descartes Pentant application would give a flexible and cost-effective solution designed around the company’s specific operational and logistical needs to manage road vehicle manifests.
ChannelPorts manages clearances of vehicles on more than 80 crossings daily through Dover and up to seven trains hourly, with approximately 32 vehicles per train, through Eurotunnel.
Descartes’ Pentant solution provides ChannelPorts with a reliable and secure connection to both CHIEF (the central UK Revenue & Customs system) and ICS (the European Union Import Control System) to streamline declaration, cargo security and clearance processes. Descartes Integrated Customs for Europe allows ChannelPorts to provide real-time filing status visibility to its clients’ customs declarations to HMRC and other UK government agencies.
