DHL Air UK to become carrier’s long haul arm

DHL Express is to set up a new intra-European airline based in Austria and will at the same time remodel its East Midlands-based airline, DHL Air UK, to focus on intercontinental services, with increase flights to the Americas and Asia.

Under its Strategy 2025, it will operate a fleet of B757 freighter aircraft transferred from DHL Air UK on its intra-European flight services, while DHL Air UK will expand its B767 operations and add new B777Fs to its fleet that will start operations in early 2022.

DHL Air UK managing director, Tom Mackle, said: “The UK has always been a crucial gateway to the world. With an increasing demand in international time definite deliveries this is today more valid than ever. The expansion of our intercontinental Express fleet in the UK by adding new B777s, the most modern and efficient freight aircraft, underlines our engagement and our commitment to meet changing customer needs, to continuously deliver excellent services and to also improve our carbon emissions footprint.”

DHL is in the process of filing applications for the new intra-European airline with the Austrian authorities.
