DP World launches first rail route from Serbia to western Europe

[ March 5, 2026   //   ]

DP World has launched an intermodal rail service between its facility in Novi Sad, Serbia and Herne in Germany’s Rhine-Ruhr region.

Operated by Austrian transport company LKW Walter it offers three weekly departures, with shorter transit times than trucking and reducing carbon emissions by up to 80%. DPW says its Novi Sad terminal is the first in Serbia to offer a regular rail connection to Western Europe. It says that road freight faces increasing regulatory and operational pressures with unpredictable transit times and growing exposure to European Union road freight rules, including the Entry/Exit System (EES) and stricter driving rules.
