DSV to expand presence in Ghent

[ April 20, 2022   //   ]

DSV has signed an agreement to build new warehouses at the port of Ghent. The 18 hectare site at the Kluizendok on the left bank will include 100,000sq m of warehouses.

DSV says the development will improve and expand the capabilities of its Ghent health cluster, including value-added activities and process automation. The building will contain flexible temperature-controlled storage areas at ambient temperature, 2-8°C, -20°C, -40°C and -80°C.

DSV already has a logistics centre in Ghent for the storage and distribution of goods for the healthcare industry and chemical industry among others.

Chief executive of the North Sea PortDaan Schalck – , a development area that encompasses the 60km cross-border port area that extends from Vlissingen in the Netherlands through Terneuzen and then to Ghent, 32 km inland in Belgium – said: “We are pushing hard to further anchor our existing activities and expand employment opportunities. DSV’s investment in new storage warehouses is furthermore completely in line with the further development of our logistics sector.”

DSV executive vice president Peter van der Maas, added: “This Breeam-certified expansion in Ghent enables us at DSV to achieve our growth in a sustainable way and to provide our customers with state-of-the art warehousing and value added logistics within healthcare and other target groups in the long term. Additionally, it will provide a strong impulse for employment and economic development in the region.”

North Sea Port and the Port of Gothenburg have meanwhile signed an agreement to work together which they hope will be the nucleus of a network of medium-sized European ports.

They aim to exchange knowledge between similar ports and investigate further cooperation as well as reinforcing their commercial interests and supporting the flow of goods between the two ports. They also want to share knowledge and good examples in the field of energy management and will investigate joint submission of projects for European financing in sustainability, energy transition, digitisation and the European transport network.
